he name Monticelli has historic origins. The name stems "... dal suo sito amenissimo che è un piccolo monticello in mezzo a vasta pianura" ("... from its heavenly site that is a small hill in the middle of a large valley" - Annibale Mariotti, manuscript n.1423, Biblioteca Comunale Augusta di Perugia, 18th century).
The oldest military tower is from the year 1100 (Torre Piccola). The two military towers later incorporated into a residential palace were built in 1230 and 1260 (Il Palazzo). The 4th tower, partly destroyed in WWII, is probably from the late 14th century.
