Most travellers do not leave the main roads to search for hidden art treasures. Even though some of the best cultural guide-books have hints to discover the art treasures of the so-called "lesser Umbria", not everybody has enough time to visit them.
The owners of Borgo Monticelli have researched the so-called "lesser Umbria" over many years of presence in the region. They have discovered little chapels lost in the countryside with delicate antique frescos, fascinating abandoned monastries, hidden castles, antique hamlets and mills and centuries old villas.
In the immediate vicinity there are many other special sites: the magnificent "S. Sebastiano" by Perugino (in the church of Cerqueto), the grave of the artist and other frescos of his (at Fontignano); "Our Lady with the Infant" probably by Pinturicchio (at Pietrafitta); the sanctuary of Mongiovino; the town of Panicale with delicate frescos by Masolino da Panicale and by Perugino.
